The Heat of the Summer - July Update

July may only have brought two driving test passes, and sympathies to T and H who were unsuccesful but what a month it's been!

Massive congratulations to Helen from Bedale and Georgina from Crakehall on passing their driving tests.

Every pass is special, but these two really reminded me why I love doing what I do.

❤️ Helen has gained the independence she needs to help support her family through a difficult period of illness. Her licence will make a real difference when it matters most.

🌟 Georgina, who is in her late 60's, passed her very first driving test. She'd never taken a driving test before, proving that you're never too old to set yourself a new challenge and achieve something you've always wanted.

It's easy to count passes, but it's the stories behind them that stay with me. A driving licence isn't just a piece of plastic—it's freedom, confidence and, for some people, a genuine life-changing opportunity.

The June Update

The June Update!

Daniel shone, along with the sun, in June as he passed his driving test at Northallerton with a fabulous, almost fault free, drive.

Daniel first contacted me in December last year to arrange his tuition and test - I love some good planning!! He was "home" from his work abroad and wanted to top up some previous learning with a mini intensive course to prepare him for his test.

I'm delighted to say it all worked out and despite some inclement weather in early June, Daniel aced his driving test.

Daniel, it was a real pleasure helping you pass and trust you also had a fabulous time at the wedding in Paris

Sadly, a couple of clients were unsuccessful in June - by a whisker! To J from Middleton and M from Brompton your time will come soon. Keep the faith and I look forward to seeing your success too.

Updated Terms & Conditions

All clients will receive a new link to sign updated terms and conditions in the next few days. They are also availble to view by clicking on the Terms link at the foot of this page.

If you are under 18 years of age your appropriate adult will also receive the message.

The changes are highlighted in the document however essentially there are 2 main alterations:

4.2 The minimum length of a lesson is 1 hour with additonal increments of 30 minutes available up to a maximum of 4 (instead of 2) hours.

5.3 Payment for your lesson is now required a minimum of 1 day before your next booked lesson using any payment options; online card payment, bank transfer or cash.

7.3 You must hold a valid UK driving licence (proviisonal or full) or a valid international driving licence permitting you to drive in the UK. For confirmation see https://www.gov.uk/driving-nongb-licence

The terms are valid immediately.

The May Update

May has been another amazing month of success and with 2 more tests still scheduled in before the the beginning of June we are hoping for yet more!

What a delight! Congratulations Rashu from Catterick Garrison.

Rashu passed her driving test in Northallerton this morning at the first time of asking and with just 3 minor errors. Brilliant!

I feel privileged to have helped Rashu over these last 18 months with her journey to her full driving licence. It's not been easy for you Rashu and I can only admire your conviction and determination to get to where you are today! A truly fabulous outcome.

Enjoy your success and wishing you and your family a fantastic family wedding next month too!

Then came Dominique from South Otterington.

Dominique passed also at the first time of asking having taken just 23 hours of lessons since the end of February. In that time she's also passed her theory test and now finds that the roads of North Yorkshire and beyond are open to her.

Spring Update

A lovely early Easter present for Eliesha from Thirsk as she passed her driving test at Northallerton on Tuesday 31 March!

With just 23 hours of tuition Eliesha had a fab drive and now has the envious task of shopping for a new car!

Congratulations Eliesha! Once again this is a life changing moment for you and I know how it's going to impact on your life, especially in the immediate months ahead. It's been great fun and I'll miss the children singing from the back seats during our lessons

Whooop! Congratulations Maggie. You’ve worked really hard in fine tuning your driving in recent weeks and with less than 35 hours of tuition secured a fantastic driving test pass at Northallerton with fewer than a handful of minor faults. Brilliant.

Sitting in on your drive was a privilege and to see how you did that parallel park was a delight!!

Congratulations again and wishing you all the best for your exams this summer.

🚗 **Important Changes to Car Driving Test Bookings – 2026 Update** 🚗

If you're planning to book or change your driving test this year, please take note of these important updates:

📅 From 31 March 2026

The number of times a learner driver can change their test will reduce from 6 changes to just 2.

What will count as changes? Changing the date or time, changing the test centre or

swapping your appointment with another learner driver who already has a test booked.

📅 From 12 May 2026

It will be against the law to book or change a driving test for someone else.

Only the candidate (or someone who knows a candidate that requires help) can book their driving test.

When booking a test, candidates must confirm that they:

✔️ Are booking only their own car driving test

✔️ Agree to new terms and conditions

A Quick Update About Lesson Fees from 1 April

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a quick update with you about lesson fees at Driving-Ed.

First of all, thank you for choosing me to be part of your driving journey — whether you're learning from scratch or building confidence as a full licence holder. I’m committed to helping every driver become safe, confident and capable for life.

From 1 April, my lesson fees will be increasing slightly. The equivalent hourly rate will increase by just £2 and you'll find that 90 minute and 2 hour lessons will increase pro-raa

I know that any price change is important, so I want to be open about why this is happening — and more importantly, what you’ll gain from it.

Why Are Fees Increasing?

If only business costs went down once in a while! While fuel prices have stayed fairly steady recently, insurance, vehicle maintenance, and ongoing professional training have all continued to rise.

What I won’t do is cut corners.

The Department of Transport is consulting on plans to introduce a Minimum Learning Period (MLP) for learner drivers. This could mean:

• A minimum number of months before taking a test

• A required number of supervised driving hours

• A compulsory logbook to track progress

• A structured syllabus covering different road and traffic conditions

The aim is to ensure learners gain the right experience and confidence before driving independently — but your views matter.

Whether you're a learner, parent, instructor, or experienced driver, this is your chance to shape how driver training works in the future.
