August has been a month that I’ll remember for a very long time.
There have been plenty of lessons, plenty of learning and, as always, a few challenges along the way. But this month also brought two very special driving test passes: Susan from Catterick and Naomi from Bedale. 🎉
What makes these passes particularly meaningful is that both ladies started their driving journeys later in life, while also facing their own challenges.
For some people, learning to drive can feel like a straightforward step into adulthood. But life doesn't always work that way. Sometimes circumstances, confidence, additional needs or personal challenges mean that things happen at a different pace.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
It's never too late
Susan and Naomi are fantastic examples of why you should never tell yourself that you've missed your opportunity.
They both had their own hurdles to overcome. There were times when learning felt difficult, times when confidence was tested and moments when progress didn't necessarily come as quickly as they would have liked.
But they kept going.
They learned, adapted, practised and gradually built their confidence. Most importantly, they didn't give up on themselves.
And then came the moment every learner driver works towards...
“I'm pleased to tell you that you have passed!” 🥳
Those words can mean so much more than simply gaining a driving licence.
For Susan and Naomi, their passes represent independence, freedom, confidence and achievement. They represent all those lessons where things didn't go perfectly, all the times they had to try again, and all the moments when they had to believe that they could eventually get there.
And they did.
Your journey doesn't have to look like everyone else's
One of the things I love about teaching people to drive is seeing that every learner is different.
There is no perfect age to start. There is no set amount of time it should take. And there certainly isn't just one way to learn.
Sometimes you need more time.
Sometimes you need to do things differently.
Sometimes you need someone to believe in you when you're struggling to believe in yourself.
That's okay.
The important thing is that your journey is your journey.
Susan and Naomi have both shown that having additional challenges doesn't mean you can't achieve your goals. It might mean that the journey looks a little different — but different doesn't mean impossible.

So, to Susan and Naomi, a huge congratulations.
I know you are both incredibly proud of yourselves.
Not just because you passed your driving tests, but because of everything you overcame to get there.
You started your journeys later in life. You faced challenges along the way. You had moments of doubt. But you kept putting one foot in front of the other — or, in this case, one wheel in front of the other! 🚗
And now you have your driving licences.
I hope you both enjoy every mile, every bit of independence and every new adventure that comes with it.
Your stories are a wonderful reminder that it's never too late, challenges don't have to define you, and sometimes the biggest achievements are the ones you once wondered if you'd ever be able to achieve.
